Lifeguard Testing

RI State Beaches Hiring Lifeguards

Are you looking for a great summer job? Do you have Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certifications? There may be an opportunity for you to work as a lifeguard at a state beach with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management's Division of Parks & Recreation.

THE DIVISION REQUESTS THAT ALL CANDIDATES PRE-REGISTER FOR A TIMESLOT. WALK-IN REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED, BUT CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO WAIT UNTIL AN OPENING IS AVAILABLE.  NO WALK-IN APPLICANTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 2 PM.

Step One: For any candidates working in a state facility, apply for a Lifeguard position online at the State of Rhode Island Career Page.

Step Two: All candidates must Sign Up as a RecDesk User. If you haven't used our online portal RecDesk before, create your "community profile" with a username and password. If you registered for your swim test last year using RecDesk, you already have a community profile, so you can just log on.

Step Three: Check the upcoming swim test dates below. Go to the Calendar and scroll to the date of your choice. Click on your preferred time slot (in light blue) and click on "Select This Program." Click the orange "Add to Cart" button and proceed to check out. You are not registered until you have completed the check out process. You will receive an email confirmation after you successfully register. Note: There are six slots per test. If your desired test is full, select another time slot or day.

Step Four: Complete this Lifeguard Certification Form and bring it with you to your swim test. If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A parent or legal guardian will be required to sign this form and present Photo ID at time of testing. If a parent or legal guardian is not able to accompany a child under 18, this form MUST be filled out, signed and notarized by the parent or legal guardian.

What to Bring to the Test: Bring a Photo ID, documentation of your Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid certificates, and your completed Lifeguard Certification Form (*Reminder that this form must be signed and notarized if you are under 18 and not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian).
